Academic Advising/Success Coaching is an essential element of NCTC’s commitment to ensuring that students take the proper courses, in the proper sequence, in order to meet their educational and career goals. In addition to providing the academic advising students need to identify educational goals, Success Coaches also help students understand the college admissions process and research college majors and transferability of coursework. NCTC Success Coaches provide services to all new, returning, and potential students throughout each semester-not just during registration.
The following students are required to meet with a Success Coach in order to register for courses:
● First-time college students, including students who were previously Dual Credit students but are now at NCTC full or part-time
● Students who are not TSI (Texas Success Initiative) complete in one or more areas and are therefore required to enroll in preparatory or integrated coursework
● Students who need to have transfer credits applied from another institution in order to meet prerequisites for NCTC courses
● International students (full or part time)
● Students on Academic Probation or with an approved Academic Suspension appeal
Students who qualify for online course registration are not required to meet with a Success Coach. However, it is highly recommended that students who have questions or need information about course sequencing, prerequisites, choosing or changing a major, and/or transferability of courses or degrees visit with a Success Coach.
