RNSG 2414 - Complex Care Needs
Application of a systematic problem solving process, critical thinking skills and concepts to provide comprehensive nursing care to diverse patients and families across the life span with complex health care needs including, but not limited to, complex childhood/adolescent diseases, complicated perinatal care, acute mental illness, complex perioperative care, serious adult health problems and health issues related to aging. Emphasis on tertiary disease prevention, health maintenance/restoration and collaboration with members of the multidisciplinary health care team. Content includes the roles of the professional nurse and applicable competencies in knowledge, judgment, skills, and professional values within a legal/ethical framework.
Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion, students will be able to:
- prioritize clinical reasoning processes and clinical judgment when caring for patients and families across the lifespan with complex health care needs;
- manage collaborative behavior as a member of the interdisciplinary health care team;
- analyze legal and ethical parameters of nursing for patients and families experiencing complex health care problems.
