VNSG 1230 - Maternal-Neonatal Nursing



Utilization of the nursing process in the assessment and management of the childbearing family. Emphasis on the bio-psycho-socio-cultural needs of the family during the phases of pregnancy, childbirth, and the neonatal period including abnormal conditions.

Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion, students will be able to:

  • discuss human reproduction and fetal development as related to the normal aspects of childbearing;
  • identify common complications of the mother and newborn during prenatal, antenatal, and postnatal periods;
  • and relate characteristics of the normal newborn and associated nursing interventions to meet identified health care needs utilizing the nursing process and clinical judgement model.
