North Central Texas College is dedicated to providing quality educational opportunities, advocating of the rights and development of each individual of the College community in a positive and encouraging environment.

The Office Conduct and Title IX fosters the holistic development of students at North Central Texas College by providing opportunities for advocacy, leadership, civic learning, moral development, empowerment, accountability, and community engagement.

The Office Conduct and Title IX includes the following programs and services:

Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution

The Office of Conduct and Title IX is responsible for:

  • Educating students about their rights and responsibilities as members of the NCTC community.
  • Facilitating student learning and development regarding community behavioral standards.
  • Promoting a safe and inclusive environment that fosters student success.
  • Guiding student conduct for responsible citizenship and positive lifestyle choice.
  • Implementing the Student Conduct Code and other policies governing student conduct, on and off campus.
  • Oversee administrative procedures for the fair enforcement of the rules and regulations, and preserving due process rights of each individual student;
  • And, provide educational & training activities that promote and encourage discovery.

Title IX & Sexual Misconduct

North Central Texas College (NCTC) District strictly prohibits sexual and gender-based harassment, sexual violence, sexual assault, sexual misconduct, interpersonal violence and any other harassment or discrimination based on sex perpetrated against or by any employee, student or third party in all educational, extracurricular, co-curricular, employment and College District-sponsored activities, services or programs, by any employee, student, or third party.

NCTC is committed to ensuring an educational and employment environment that is free of discrimination and harassment on the basis of sex.

Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972 is the federal statute that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex.
It reads:

No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subject to discrimination under any educational program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.

The Office of Conduct and Title IX is responsible for coordinating the college compliance with Title IX, including the college grievance procedures for resolving Title IX complaints.

If someone has been impacted by violence, the individual is not alone. There are resources and services available to help. The Office of Conduct and Title IX will provide more information regarding rights, reporting options, investigation/adjudication process and resources. Title IX - Pregnant and Parenting Students

Title IX provides for equal educational opportunities for pregnant and parenting students.  It prohibits educational institutions from discriminating against pregnant students based on marital status and prohibits discrimination against a student because of pregnancy, childbirth, false pregnancy, or recovery from related conditions.  Additionally, Title IX also provides protections for parents that are raising a child during the immediate postpartum period.

Education Code Section 51.982

Protections for Pregnant and Parenting Students

An institution of higher education may not require a pregnant or parenting student, solely because of the student’s status as a pregnant or parenting student or due to issues related to the student’s pregnancy or parenting, to:

  1. Take a leave of absence or withdraw from the student’s degree or certificate program;
  2. Limit the student’s studies;
  3. Participate in an alternative program;
  4. Change the student’s major, degree, or certificate program; or
  5. Refrain from joining or cease participating in any course, activity, or program at the institution.

An institution of higher education shall, for reasons related to a student’s pregnancy, childbirth, or any resulting medical status or condition:

  1. Excuse the student’s absence;
  2. Allow the student to make up missed assignments or assessments;
  3. Allow the student additional time to complete assignments in the same manner as the institution allows for a student with a temporary medical condition; and
  4. Provide the student with access to instructional materials and video recordings of lectures for classes for which the student has an excused absence to the same extent that instructional materials and video recordings of lectures are made available to any other student with an excused absence.

An institution of higher education shall allow a pregnant or parenting student to:

  1. Take a leave of absence; and
  2. If in good academic standing at the time the student takes a leave of absence, return to the student’s degree or certificate program in good academic standing without being required to reapply for admission.

The duration for a leave of absence will be dependent on doctor recommendations for the time of the release.  If you believe you may need to take a leave of absence, please contact the liaison (studentparents@nctc.edu).

REASONABLE ACCOMMODATIONS

An institution of higher education shall provide reasonable accommodations to a pregnant student, including accommodations that:

  1. Would be provided to a student with a temporary medical condition; or
  2. Are related to the health and safety of the student and the student’s unborn child, such as allowing the student to maintain a safe distance from substances, areas, and activities known to be hazardous to pregnant women or unborn children.

Reasonable accommodations vary for each individual student based on one’s unique needs and circumstances, however examples of reasonable accommodations may include:  accessible seating, frequent restroom breaks, ability to have food and drink in the classroom, ability to be part of a priority registration period if one is offered.

To request Pregnancy and/or Parenting related services, please contact the Student Parent Liaison for an appointment (studentparents@nctc.edu).  At the time of your appointment, please be sure to bring any necessary documentation with you.  This may include the child’s birth certificate, a doctor’s note, and/or a copy of a certified court order.

Veteran Support Services

The NCTC Veteran Lounge

The NCTC Veteran Lounge opened in 2017 and offers veterans a place to relax, study and enjoy the same camaraderie that they experienced while serving their country. The Veteran lounge is equipped with computer stations, printers, supplies, and study space.

The Lounge is open during normal business hours.

NCTC assist Veteran Students in connecting to community programs and resources of interest.

A Veteran’s Canvas Networking Group is available for Veteran Students so that they can connect with other veterans at NCTC.

Giving/Sharing Shelves & Food Pantry

The objective of the Giving/Sharing Shelves and Food Pantry is to meet the immediate short -term food needs of students on campus. The College also provides non-foods needs to the students at various locations.

Accessing the food pantry does not require application or approval. It is available to students with a need.

Community Outreach

NCTC is committed to building relationships and partnerships within the community to collaborate and build an infrastructure of resources for students. In addition, NCTC also offers its expertise and skills set to assist with innovative initiatives and solutions that benefit the community.
