Acting
The Drama Department at NCTC has opportunities to participate in up to seven performances each year. Each summer, the department produces a large musical; in the past, Rent, Shrek, The Rocky Horror Show, and Be More Chill have been crowd favorites. The Drama Department also produces such interesting works as Dog Sees God, The Revolutionists, and Dracula. NCTC Drama has performed at the Orlando Fringe in Orlando, Florida as well as the Hollywood Fringe Festival and the Rave Theater Festival in New York City. With acting and stagecraft classes available, students get the chance to experience all aspects of the theater-from onstage to backstage.
Music
Our Music Department is a great place for students to prepare for enrollment at a four-year college or university in the school of music. Classes in music theory, ear training, music appreciation, and private instruction will help students become successful and confident musicians who are ready to audition for the music programs at large, comprehensive four-year schools.
The performing groups associated with NCTC’s Music Department provide exciting learning opportunities for students as well as cultural enrichment for the North Central Texas area. Band and Choir Ensembles include the NCTC College Singers, the NCTC College Ensemble, the NCTC Jazz Band, and the North Central Texas Winds. All ensembles are open to both music and non-music majors, and students may receive scholarship assistance for their enrollment and participation.
The North Central Texas Winds is a 60-member wind ensemble devoted to the rehearsal, study, and performance of a wide variety of important band literature. NCTC students, as well as community members who are accomplished musicians, are invited to audition for the group. Auditions are necessary for chair placement within the group. Please see the NCTC Band website for more information about enrollment, auditions, and scholarships.
The NCTC Jazz Band performs a varied repertoire during concerts and special appearances throughout the North Texas region. Please see the NCTC Band website for more information about enrollment, auditions, and scholarships.
The NCTC College Singers is an auditioned group of about 40 students, devoted to the rehearsal, study, and performance of a wide variety of vocal literature. Concerts are themed around standard literature, pop, Broadway, folk, and more. The College Ensemble, limited to 12 singers, is auditioned from the College Singers and performs a wide variety of literature. This smaller group was created in order to facilitate travel, as they represent NCTC at special events in our area. Both groups have won a large and enthusiastic audience, singing to crowds who attend “sold out” choir concerts. The choir travels periodically, and our students have performed at Walt Disney World and as part of a Two-Year College Festival Chorus in Carnegie Hall in New York City. Choir is open to all students with interest and experience, by audition.
