The Business Management program at North Central Texas College is designed to equip students with knowledge and skills directly applicable to a career in management, as well as to update and sharpen personal management skills. The program is also designed to provide quality workforce education to men and women seeking to qualify themselves for positions of managerial responsibility in business and industry.

Classes focus on the specific needs of the student, whether that is to work for a large corporation or manage a business as a sole proprietor. Students may pursue an Occupational Skills Award (OSA), a Level 1 certificate or an AAS in Business Management. All courses in the OSA and certificate apply to the AAS. Concentrations within the AAS focus on human resources, entrepreneurship, or general business.

Associate of Applied Science Degree

The Business Management Associate of Applied Science Degree is designed to equip students with knowledge and skills directly applicable to a career in one of three concentrations, as well as to update and sharpen personal management skills. It is also aimed at providing quality workforce education for positions of managerial responsibility in business and industry. In addition to providing classroom-based course work, the College works with local and area employers to provide on-the-job training experiences to bridge the gap between theory and practice.

Business Management Career Concentrations:

The concentrations are very similar except for four classes.

  1. The General Business Concentration is for students who want to work at a corporation or small company in an entry-level management or supervisory capacity. The classes start with the very basics of business and take you all the way through to a General Business Management AAS Degree.
  2. The Entrepreneur Concentration  is for students who want to open their own business, work at a start-up, or work at a small company in a management capacity. The classes start with the very basics of business and take you all the way through to an AAS Degree.
  3. The Human Resources Concentration  is for students who want to work at a corporation or small business in a Human Resources career function. The classes start with basic business management foundation, progress to advanced Human Resource related courses, and culminate in an AAS Degree.

The student may select the career concentration that best meets their goals.

Upon completion of the Associate of Applied Science Degree, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate written and oral communication skills appropriate for business situations.
  • Plan the operations of a business across functional areas.
  • Demonstrate the ability to perform basic financial analysis.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of global dimensions of business including sociocultural, political, legal, financial, technological, and economic environments.

This degree can be completed through a mix of face-to-face and online classes or 100% online. The program is designed to take two years to complete.
