Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Technology (HVAC) is considered a high-demand occupation throughout Texas. HVAC technicians install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair heating and air conditioning units. Technicians may work for a general contractor, in building maintenance, for companies that build the HVAC units, equipment manufacturing, suppliers, and sales.
Beginning HVAC students can earn an EPA 608 Certification, which enables them to handle, recover and dispose of refrigerants.
North Central Texas College is recognized as an HVAC training site with the Texas Department of License and Regulation (TDLR).
Beginning HVAC technicians can expect to earn between $15 and $18 per hour, with steady increases. Advanced Technicians with 4+ years of experience can obtain a contractor’s license that leads to small business ownership and significantly greater earnings.
Associate of Applied Science Degree
Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Technology (HVAC) is considered a high demand occupation throughout Texas. HVAC technicians install, maintain and repair heating and air conditioning units.
Technicians may work for:
- A general contractor
- In building maintenance
- Service companies
- Sales
Beginning HVAC students can earn an EPA 608 certification, which enables the use, disposal and recovery of refrigerants. This is generally, industry standard for technicians.
North Central Texas College is a recognized HVAC technician training center for the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR).
Beginning technicians can expect to earn between $15 and $18 per hour. Experienced technicians can obtain a contractor’s license after completing the required hours as a technician. With a contractor’s license, they can start their own business, or work as an advanced technician. Advanced technicians can expect to earn $22 per hour and higher.
Upon completion of the Associate of Applied Science Degree, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate appropriate communication skills needed for the industry.
- Demonstrate the proper setup and the use of basic procedures related to the Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning field.
- Basic skills for installation, setup, and startup of a system.
- Heat pump basic operation and theory.
- Demonstrate the application of and the ability to properly use specialty tools required in the Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning industry.
- Demonstrate knowledge of basic HVAC systems.
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of HVAC electrical systems.
- Prepared to complete the EPA 608 exam.
The AAS can be completed with a combination of online, hybrid, and face-to-face classes. The program is designed to be completed in two years and consists of the following course of study.
