For those seeking to obtain an Associate Degree, NCTC offers an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Fire Science and Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Fire Administration. The Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degrees are designed for individuals employed in fire service who want to further enhance their career through expanded experience and/or education:
The Associate of Applied Science (AAS) - Fire Science degree prepares students for leadership positions within the fire service. Introductory and advanced courses emphasize:
- Management and leadership of municipal fire services
- Firefighting strategies & tactics
- Firefighter safety & health
- Fire inspection
- Fire behavior
Following successful completion of the program, the graduate will be able to:
- Understanding of building construction as it relates to firefighter safety, building codes, fire prevention, code inspection, and firefighting strategy and tactics.
- Utilization of the national incident management system (NIMS) during hazardous situations.
- Integrating the use of technology to inform operational and strategic decisions that will enhance firefighting strategy and tactics.
- Analysis of issues that deal with the psychological effects of fire dynamics
