MUSI 1116 - Sight Singing & Ear Training I



Reinforcement of theoretical concepts presented in MUSI 1311  via singing, ear training, keyboard skills, and conducting experiences.

Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion, students will be able to:

  • apply a method of sight singing to diatonic melodies in treble and bass clef, and oral demonstration of simple rhythms;
  • classify elements of music, such as scales, intervals and chords;
  • transcribe aural rhythms and diatonic melodies;
  • transcribe and analyze aural basic harmonic progressions;
  • readandreproduce rhythms in various simple meters.

Prerequisite(s): MUSI 1301 or satisfactory score on placement exam.

Corequisite(s): Must be taken concurrently with MUSI 1311  and MUSI 1174  or 1274.
