MUSI 1311 - Music Theory I
Analysis and writing of tonal melody and diatonic harmony up to and including the chords. Analysis and writing of small compositional forms. Correlated study at the keyboard.
Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion, students will be able to:
- construct and identify major scales and all forms of the minor scale;
- construct and identify triads and seventh chords in all inversions;
- analyze triads in harmonic context utilizing standard roman-numeral symbols;
- compose musicin standard four-part chorale style;
- identify small musical forms;
- demonstrate musical concepts covered in class, including scales, triads, and basic harmonic progression on the keyboard;
- demonstrate an understanding of rhythmic meter and note duration through score analysis and composition.

Prerequisite(s): MUSI 1301 or satisfactory score on placement exam.
Corequisite(s): Must be taken concurrently with MUSI 1116 and MUSI 1174 or 1274
