The North Central Texas College (NCTC) Welding Technology program is designed to provide graduates with a comprehensive skillset, preparing them for immediate entry and long-term success in modern manufacturing and related industries. Upon completion of the program, graduates will demonstrate proficiency in the following technical and professional competencies:

Foundational Welding Skills & Processes:

  • Safety Practices: Adherence to proper safety protocols and procedures in the workplace.
  • Material Joining Expertise: Mastery of welding techniques applicable to aluminum, stainless steel, and mild steel.
  • Process Proficiency: Demonstrated competence in:
    • Oxy-Fuel Welding & Cutting
    • Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW)
    • Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW)
    • Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW)
    • Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW)
  • Blueprint Reading & Code Interpretation: Ability to accurately interpret welding blueprints and adhere to relevant industry codes.
  • Metal Preparation: Proficient in utilizing cutting tools and preparing welding materials.
  • Hand & Power Tool Operation: Safe and effective use of common metalworking hand and power tools.
  • Joint Design & Preparation:  Ability to design and prepare appropriate welding joints for various applications.
  • Advanced Gas Metal Arc Welding and Flux Cored Arc Welding techniques and fabrication.
  • Geometric Construction: Application of spatial reasoning skills in the accurate layout and construction of welded assemblies.

Certificate Requirements


Total Credit Hours: 32


Capstone Requirement: Students completing the certificate must pass a comprehensive program exam and lab with a score of 70% or higher. The exam and lab are embedded in WLDG 2352 - Advanced Flux Cored Arc Welding  curriculum.
